Obituary of Betty Jane Tingley

Lakewood Township, NJ - Betty Jane (Howarth) Tingley, 89, passed away in the early hours of July 5, 2017 at Monmouth Medical Center in Lakewood Township. Betty Jane was born and raised in Westfield, settled to South Plainfield in 1955 and most recently moving to Lakewood in February. Betty Jane had received her nursing certificate from Overlook Hospital's School of Nursing in 1948. Working as a Registered Nurse, she had worked in the Nursery at JFK Medical Center in Edison for thirty years until her retirement in the late 1980's. Betty Jane was an active member of the Trinity Reformed Church in North Plainfield and a member of their Broek Circle where she served as president. She was also a member of the Atlas Chapter of the Eastern Star of Westfield and the South Plainfield Senior Citizens. An avid baker, Betty Jane was known for baking cookies and sending them overseas to US Troops. Predeceased by her husband Donald R. Tingley who died in 1999, Betty Jane is survived by her daughter, Susan Hageman & her husband, B.J. of Maryland, two sons, Donald B. & Donna of Lakewood, and William & Linda of Westfield. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Sarah Davis and her husband John, Claire, Grace, Sheri Goodman and her husband Jason and Kevin Krzykwa and his wife Kristen and her great grandchildren; Zachary, Aiden, Kevin, Jr., and Alexandria Joy. Visitation will be held in McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 10:00 am until the 12:00 pm religious service. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the U.S. Navy Armed Guard, c/o Charles Lloyd, 115 Wall Creek Drive, Rolesville, NC 27571 or to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude place, Memphis, TN 38105.
