Obituary of Charles S. Pender

Charles S. Pender, 73, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born and raised in Plainfield, Mr. Pender resided in the city for many years before to moving South Plainfield. He then lived in Whiting for a few years before relocating to the New Jersey Veteran's Memorial Home at Menlo Park. Charles worked for the former Bell Labs in Berkeley Heights for 39 years retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Communications Workers of America and also belonged to the Pioneers of America. A Veteran of the Vietnam War, Charles served in the United States Air Force. He served for four years earning the rank of Sergeant prior to being honorably discharged. He was a member of the Middlesex American Legion Post 306, North Plainfield VFW as well as a member of the former Watchung Council Knights of Columbus. Predeceased by his parents, Robert and Catherine "Kitty" Pender; daughter, Katybeth; brother, Robert Pender and his grand-dog Molly MaGhee, Mr. Pender is survived by his daughter Erin Pender - Whorley and her husband Andy of Washington; former wife and caregiver, Nancy Stillman - Pender of South Plainfield; brother, Scott Pender and his wife Barbara of Piscataway; dear uncle, Charles Sivco of Flanders; sister in law, Barbara Pender of Georgia and many nieces and nephews Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 9:15am in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10am funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Cremation services and burial of Mr. Pender's cremated remains will take place privately. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 from 5-8pm in the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers donations have been requested the New Jersey Veterans Memorial home 132 Evergreen Rd. Edison, NJ 08837.
