Obituary of John Mazzeo

John Mazzeo Sr, 87, of South Plainfield, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2016 at JFK Haven Hospice in Edison. Born in Roselle Park, he was the youngest of ten children to the late Frank and Rose Mazzeo. John attended of Roselle Park High School, where he was an accomplished football player and ranked second in the 1945 State Wrestling Championship. Mr. Mazzeo proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan. He went on to operate John's Barber Shop in Manville where he participated in the chess league. Mr. Mazzeo worked for many years as a Shipping and Receiving Manager for George A. Williams in Berkeley Heights. In his retirement, he still worked as a helping hand for TeleCable in South Plainfield. He spent his free time at the Senior Center, where he was part of the South Planfield Side Pockets, and was a member of the South Plainfield Elks. John always stayed active and especially enjoyed playing horseshoes, chess, billiards, and cards. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife Tina Mannello Mazzeo in 2008, and his seven siblings. Surviving are his loving children, Rosetta Mazurkewicz and husband Bruce, John Mazzeo, Jr. and wife Evelyn, and Felicia Rosocha and husband Ted, his seven cherished grandchildren, Laura (Joshua), Melissa, Michael, Peter, Jacob, Jessica, and Julie (Jeremy), his three great grandchildren, Jenna, Jamie, and Lilya, his dear siblings Polly Tassitano, and Frank Mazzeo and wife Pat, his many loved nieces, nephews, extended family, dear neighbors and lifelong friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 1:00 to 5:00PM at the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield. Funeral services will begin at 10:00AM on Monday, May 23rd at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 11:00AM
