Obituary of Anthony T Laico

Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anthony Thomas Laico, 81, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025 at his home in Easton, PA.

Born to the late Lucia (nee Panzarino) and Salvatore Laico, Tony grew up in Elizabeth, NJ and as he got older, he could rarely stay in one place for too long. Over the years, he has resided in Rahway NJ, Buffalo NY, Geneseo NY, South Plainfield NJ, Ocean Pines MD, Pompano Beach FL, and most recently, Easton, PA.

Following his high school graduation, Tony went on to study the German language at Rutgers University, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree. He then earned a Master's Degree in German from SUNY Buffalo. He began his career teaching German at Geneseo University before moving on to the Edison NJ School District where he taught German, Italian, and Mathematics. He retired in 1988 after a 30 year career.

Outside of work, Tony loved reading, especially German books, and playing both the piano and accordion. He enjoyed walking on the boardwalk, Broadway shows, and traveling. He had fond memories of his trips to Italy, Germany, and Austria. Above all, he cherished gathering with family and friends, as well as friends that became family, especially during the holidays.

Tony was known for his outstanding memory and knowledge of family history.  His ability to recall a myriad of details about past places, dates, and people made him the official family historian.

Tony leaves behind his sister, Lucille Laico and her wife Lena Mompaolo; nieces Caitlin Auth, Claudette, and Charlene; two grandnieces and a host of extended relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ on Thursday, November 20th, at 11:30 AM. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home prior to the services, beginning at 11 AM.

Burial will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery and Mausoleum, 53 Inman Ave, Colonia, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Cancer Research Hospital in Tony’s name.
