
Obituary of Margaret Sullivan
Margaret “Peggy” Ann (Green) Sullivan, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Sunrise of Bridgewater. Peggy was born in Plainfield to the late Marie (Randall Green) Skirzenski and Frederick Green, Sr.
Peggy and her husband, Thomas, both graduates of Plainfield High School were married for sixty-nine years. They raised their five children in South Plainfield and relocated to Whitehouse Station in the late 1970s.
A devout Catholic, Peggy taught religious education for many years at Sacred Heart School. She also was president of the Parent Teachers Association at both Sacred Heart School and St. Pius X High School.
She enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, reading and visiting her favorite casinos. And she definitely loved to shop!
Peggy loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all of whom will miss her dearly.
She was predeceased by her husband Thomas, son William, her parents and stepfather Edward Skirzenski, Sr., sisters Marion, Patricia and Grace, brothers Frederick, Jr. and Edward Skirzenski, Jr.
She is survived by her four children: Kathleen Hopfel and her husband Kenneth, Thomas M. Jr., and his wife Joyce, Anne Sullivan and her partner Jeffrey and Richard and his wife Nancy. She will be missed by her grandchildren: Barry Hopfel and his wife Bess, Thomas III and his wife Jenna, Maranda DeLorme and her husband Gary, Devin Hopfel and his husband Branden Brown-Hopfel, and Jeffrey Sullivan and his fiancée Marta Sliwa; great-grandchildren: Jase DeLorme and Joseph, Daisy, Nicolette and Sonny Sullivan; brother-in-law John “Jack” Sullivan, Jr. and his wife Gail, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 from 3pm until 6pm and on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 beginning at 9:00am. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at 9:30am followed by a 10:00am funeral Mass to follow at Sacred Heart Church, 149 S Plainfield Ave, South Plainfield. Burial will take place at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, also in South Plainfield.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated administrative and social services professionals, caregivers, as well as the nursing team at Sunrise of Bridgewater and Homeside Hospice. Their unwavering compassion and attentive care towards Peggy during her time there were deeply appreciated.
