Obituary of Donald Joseph Racek
Donald Joseph Racek, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and public servant, passed away surrounded by his loving family. His life was marked by dedication—to his work, his community, and above all, to his family.
Born with a quiet strength and a giving spirit, Donald began his career as a special education teacher for five years. He later transitioned to law enforcement, joining the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. Over the years, his hard work, sharp sense of justice, and steady leadership earned him the rank of Lieutenant. Donald’s career was defined by service—ensuring fairness, safety, and guidance to those around him. He was respected by colleagues and remembered by many as a man of integrity and principle.
Donald’s proudest role, however, was that of a family man. He shared a deep and enduring love with his wife, Patricia Scott Racek, building a home filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished traditions. Together, they raised four children and adored their spouses: Donald Racek Jr., Kevin Racek, Patricia (Racek) Lugo and her husband Damion Lugo, and Susan (Racek) Metz and her husband Jeff Metz. His family was his greatest joy and legacy, and he never missed an opportunity to show his love and pride in each of them.
He was blessed with the gift of grandchildren, who lit up his life in countless ways: Gina Racek Mann, Kevin Racek, Damen Lugo, Anna Lugo, Kaitlyn Metz, Ashley Metz and Jeffrey Metz. Each held a special place in his heart, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments, their kindness, and the love they shared together.
Donald was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Edward and Mary Racek, his in-laws Christopher and Dorothy Scott, and his brother-in-law Chris Scott.
He is survived by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as his brothers Edward and Richard Racek, and their families.
Those who knew Donald will remember his sense of humor, his wisdom, and the way he lived with quiet dignity. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—family gatherings, meaningful conversations, and moments of reflection. His steady presence was a comfort to many, and his legacy of service and love will live on in the lives he touched.
Donald Joseph Racek’s life reminds us all of the importance of dedication, compassion, and family. Though he is no longer with us in person, his memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
