Edward Eggert
June 24, 1940 - September 14, 2025
South Plainfield, New Jersey
Edward Eggert, 85, of South Plainfield, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Hoboken, NJ, Ed grew up with a deep sense of community, faith, and family. It was in Hoboken where he met the love of his life, Geraldine "Gerry." Together for 71 years and married for 65, their partnership was a true example of devotion and love. They were active members of the Salvation Army Church, where he played the trumpet and trombone, previously at Hoboken High School where he began his love of music.
In 1973, Ed and Gerry moved to South Plainfield, where they became deeply rooted in the community. Ed was a lifelong member of the South Plainfield Jr. Baseball Club and the South Plainfield Elks. He and Gerry were both heavily involved in the baseball club for many years, and in 1989, Ed was honored with the Lifetime Member Award by SPJBC for his commitment and service.
A passionate sports fan, Ed grew up rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers before becoming a loyal Mets fan. He also loved the New York Giants, Rangers, and Knicks. He enjoyed camping, decorating for the holidays, and above all, spending time with his family. Ed also had a love for all music that was his constant companion, filling his days with joy, memories and emotions from Frank Sinatra to Three Dog Night, he loved it all. Additionally, his home on Clinton Avenue became known throughout the town for its festive Halloween and Christmas displays.
Ed's greatest joy was his family. He was known for opening his heart and home to all— especially during the cherished "Trafalone" family dinners. Decorating the house and creating lasting traditions with his children and grandchildren brought him endless happiness.
Ed is survived by his beloved children: Sharon Geczy (and husband John), Kim Strand (and husband Paul), Eddie Eggert (and wife Renee), Bob Eggert (and wife Lisa), Keith Eggert (and wife Tina).
He is also survived by his sister, Sue O'Brien (and husband Kevin), 12 grandchildren—Johnny,
Jerry, Chrissy, Jennifer, Anthony, Connor, Robert, Joshua, Gabby, Tyler, Rachel, and Nathan and 8 great-grandchildren: Noah, Holly, Gianna, Christian, Gary, Gracelynn, Gemma, and Gavin.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Geraldine Eggert; his parents, Eleanor and George; and his cherished daughter, Catherine Eggert.
The memories Ed created will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends. His love, generosity, and joy will be missed by all who knew him.
