Obituary of Eileen Gerety

South Plainfield – Eileen Gerety, 69, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2023 in JFK Medical Center in Edison after a brief illness.

Born in the North East Philadelphia and raised in Delran NJ, Eileen is a die – hard Phillies baseball fan, often attending games including the playoffs and World Series Games.   She earned Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgeann Court in Mathematics, Master’s degrees from NJIT in Computer Science as well as from Drew University in Divinity.  Eileen settled to South Plainfield in 1988 and worked until her retirement with AT&T after over 26 years.

In 1992, Eileen worked with Florio Legislation on Assembly Bill 634/Senate Bill 3758 in stopping discrimination of one’s sexual orientation in the work place.   She also enjoyed traveling, family time especially with the nieces and nephews, photography and loved to read and write, especially poetry.  An active member of the Church of the Redeemer in Morristown, she will be missed by all the friends she has made along the way.

Surviving are her wife of 41 years, Paulette Bellew; sisters, Maryanne Gerety and Kim Williamson and husband Michael; nieces and nephews, Steven Williamson, Devon Williamson Shea (Chris), Amy Williamson, John Drangula (Amanda), Jason Bellew (Cheryl) as well as great nieces and nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Eileen’s life will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 from 5-8PM in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080.  The family asks all who attend Eileen’s celebration to come dressed in vibrant colors to honor the life she has lived.

A church celebration will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 11:30am at the Church of the Redeemer, 36 South Street Morristown, NJ 07960.  Those who cannot make the service in person can enjoy it on https://www.youtube.com/user/RedeemerCC.
