Obituary of Maria Sipos
Maria Sipos, 74, of South Plainfield, NJ and formerly Chaumont, NY, suddenly passed away in her home on Sunday, April 16th, 2023.
Maria was born on January 7th, 1949 in Sromowce Wyżne, Poland to Andrzej and Janina (Bylińska) Pierwoła.
Maria was a force to be reckoned with, with- a go-getter attitude with a heart of absolute gold. Everything she did, she did with a fierce love for those around her.
She grew up in post-World War II Poland, helping her parents and three younger siblings run a beautiful farm in the Tatra Mountains of Poland. In her 20s, she moved to Kraków, where she met her first husband, and had her beautiful daughter, who was her entire world. While these times of raising a family during communism were extremely difficult, she would often tell stories and look back fondly of her time working as a supervisor in Krakbud.
Maria made the incredibly difficult decision to leave her family and career behind in Poland and move to America, where she joined her younger sister. She worked extremely hard, keeping up to three jobs at a time, working almost 80 hours per week, in order to ensure that she would be able to provide a comfortable life for her family at home. A few years later, she was joined by her daughter and unfortunately during this time, her first husband passed. Maria never thought she would find true love again, until she found her husband George. Together they built a life in Chaumont, NY where they opened a delicious bakery, Old World Baked Goods.
Maria worked tirelessly to make sure that her husband’s passion would thrive and be known to the world. She made incredible friends in the small rural town of Upstate NY and treated them like family. Maria was also a caretaker for several elderly locals and loved them like they were her own parents. She finally retired in 2021 at the age of 72, working hard until she finally decided to have some time for herself.
In her free time, you could catch Maria listening to music to which she would dance and sing along to, reading with her nose in a book, sitting on the couch watching Hallmark movies, or cuddling with her beloved cat, Angel. Maria’s family imagines her already bickering up in heaven with her husbands, a giant library full of romance books at her disposal, with a TV turned to the Hallmark channel at all times- can’t forget the plate of fresh prime rib waiting for her to eat.
Predeceased by her parents, Janina and Andrzej, husbands Jerzy and George, and stepson Frank, Maria is survived by her daughter, Kinga, with husband, Stan, and children, Dominika, Patrick, Olivia, and Eric, of South Plainfield; brother Edward and wife Honorata of Princeton; sister Teresa and husband Joe of South Amboy; sister Cecylia and husband Joe of Linden; daughter-in-law, Patricia, with children, Jacob and Jenna, of New Hampshire; her beloved kitty Angel, along with many other relatives and friends who she loved with all her heart and who miss her dearly.
A visitation will be held at McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Friday, April 21, 2023, from 5 PM to 8 PM.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Bernard of Clairvaux and St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 368 Sumner Ave, Plainfield, NJ, on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 11 AM. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home at 10 AM.
