Obituary of Raymond J. Toth
South Plainfield - Raymond Joseph Toth, 98, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at his home in South Plainfield.
Born and raised in Jersey City to the late Joseph Raymond Toth and Edna Thomas Faede, he attended high school, before taking the call to serve his country. Raymond then went on to join the U.S. Navy and served during World War II, where he was awarded a Legion of Merit for spotting and sinking an enemy submarine on sonar in 1943.
After the war, he resided in Far Hills before marrying the late Mildred Darling and settling in South Plainfield in 1951. Ray was a special needs bus driver for the South Plainfield Board of Education, making a difference in children’s lives for over 40 years.
Predeceased by his loving wife of 72 years, Mildred Darling Toth, and daughter Carol Salter, Ray is survived by his loving children, Gary Toth and wife Marlene, and Susan Dabrio; his cherished grandchildren, Janette (Bill), Brian (Samantha), Eric (Melanie), Jessica (Lou); and his adored great-grandchildren, Melissa, Michele, Billy, Haley, Jayden, Liam, Zander, Axel, Jackson, Bryson, and Skylar, along with a host of extended relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at the McCriskin - Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 11 AM – 2:30 PM.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 15, 2023, beginning at 2:30 PM.
At the family’s request, cremation services will be held privately. Following cremation, burial will take place at Flower Hill Cemetery, in North Bergen, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, in Ray’s name.
