Obituary of Betty Mack

South Plainfield, NJ – Elizabeth C. Mack, known to everyone as Betty, passed away at her home on March 22, 2023.  Born in Plainfield to the late Adolph and Catherine (Yurgel) Phillips, Betty was a lifelong resident of South Plainfield and a member of the first graduating class of South Plainfield High School.

Betty met her husband, Joseph, while working at Allstate Insurance and was married for 34 years until Joseph’s death in 1993.  Her primary love was family, caring for her four children, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.  Betty’s home was always open to family and friends, and she was known for her kindness, generosity and good sense of humor.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in South Plainfield.

Predeceased by her husband Joseph J. Mack in 1993 as well as her siblings, Dorothy, Thomas, Adolph and Joan.  Betty leaves behind her four children; Kathleen Skwiat and her husband Ted, Karen Forbes and her husband Gregg both of South Plainfield, Joe Mack and his wife Amy of Glastonbury, CT and Jim Mack and his wife Donna of Lanoka Harbor.  Betty will be missed by her grandchildren Jimmy, Teddy and wife Barbara, Eric, Joey and wife Mounica, Kristin, Shane, Gregory, Christian, Meredith and Jessica as well as great-grandson Theo.

A Memorial gathering will be held at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 4pm until 7pm.  Family and friends are invited to gather directly to Sacred Heart Church, 149 South Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Monday, March 27, 2023 for a 10:00am funeral mass.  Mausoleum entombment will follow with her husband at Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
