Obituary of Sook Ja Kwon
South Plainfield, NJ – Sookja Joanna Kwon, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at her home in South Plainfield.
Born and raised in Seoul, Korea, she immigrated to the United State in the 1970s and settled in South Plainfield. It was here she met Ik H. Kwon and the two married in 1986.
Over the years, Sookja worked alongside her husband at the family’s medical center but most importantly helped raise her family.
Sookja was an active member of the SYK Korean Community Center in Edison, as well as a pianist. She will be remembered most as a beautiful woman, with a lovely personality.
Predeceased by her parents, Sookja leaves behind her husband, Dr. Ik Kwon, children James Young Soo Kwon, and Esther Y. Kwon, as well as her grandson, Jacob Kwon Kees. She will also be missed by a host of extended relatives and friends.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy RC Church, 122 High Street, South Bound Brook, NJ, on Friday March 10, 2023 beginning at 11 AM.
Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, 1401 Woodland Ave, Scotch Plains, NJ.
