Obituary of Eileen Uken
South Plainfield – Eileen (Smigelski) Uken, 72, died suddenly at Morristown Memorial Hospital on February 24, 2023. Born in Jersey City to the late Anthony and Sophie (Suminski) Smigelski, Eileen was raised in Iselin and lived in Forked River and Avenel prior to settling in South Plainfield thirty years ago.
She retired as a bookkeeper for Trimensions in Englewood. Eileen was a longtime member of the South Plainfield B.P.O. of Elks #2298 and was a former Trustee and Officer of the Year. She was always willing to assist those in need and helped raise money on numerous committees. In her spare time, Eileen enjoyed travelling, going on cruises, cooking for her family and above all things, loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her sister Patricia Kochera, Eileen leaves behind her loving husband Daniel, her son Edward Martin and his fiancé Tracy Matson of Bel Aire, MD, step-daughters; Jennifer Gooding of FL, Sandra Klinger and husband David of Middlesex, Dana Uken of Sayreville and Amy Toland of Middletown. She will be deeply missed by her brother Michael Smigelski and his wife Ann Marie of SC, grandsons Dalton Martin and his wife Rachel and Shayne Martin and his wife Rebecca, step-grandsons David and Sean, great-grandchildren; Lilith and Elijah as well as her niece and nephew.
Visitation will be held at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 4pm – 8pm with an Elks service beginning 7:00pm and on Friday, March 3, 2023 beginning 9:30am.
Funeral services will begin 10:00am in the funeral home on Friday, March 3, 2023 followed by a 10:30am funeral mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church in South Plainfield. Mausoleum entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations sent in Eileen’s name to the South Plainfield Elks #2298 for the benefit of the Elks National Foundation would be appreciated.
