Obituary of Walter L. Pasacrita
South Plainfield, NJ – Walter L. Pasacrita, 95, passed away on December 22, 2022 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born and raised in New Rochelle, NY to the late Abraham and Mary (D’Onofrio) Pasacrita, Walter lived in Staten Island prior to settling in South Plainfield in 1960.
After graduating from Albert Leonard High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a Yeoman Petty Officer 3rd Class aboard the USS Denver, a light cruiser. Walter was honorably discharged in 1946 after faithfully serving his country during World War II.
Walter attended classes at Northwestern University as well as Rutgers University. He was an Assistant Chief for the Ground Safety Division, Headquarters First Air Force Michael Field located in Long Island. He continued his career as a Corporate Safety Manager for Kentile Floors and J. Wiss & Sons prior to becoming a building inspector for the Great American Insurance Company.
A longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield, Walter also was the former president of the Forging Institute in Cleveland, OH and was a twenty-five plus year member of the American Society of Safety Engineers. In his spare time, Walter had a love for reading. Throughout his life, he has read over two thousand books and also enjoyed gardening with his late wife Renee and feeding the birds in his back yard. Walter enjoyed classical music, opera, woodworking and astronomy.
Predeceased by his wife Renee in 2012 and son David in 1995, Walter was a devoted father to Brian Pasacrita and his wife Emely of South Plainfield. He was a loving gramps to Kimberly Terranova and her husband Ted and a cherished great-grandfather to Logan, Jacob and Eiven.
Visitation will be held at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 4-8pm and on Thursday, January 5, 2023 beginning 9:00am.
Funeral services will begin 9:30am in the funeral home on Thursday, January 5, 2023 followed by a 10:00am funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield. Military Honors will be rendered following mass and cremation will take place private.
