Obituary of Adoracion Icasiano Berberabe
South Plainfield, NJ – Adoracion “Dorie” Berberabe, 75, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital – Somerset.
Born and raised in the Philippines, Dorie moved to the U.S. in the late 1970s with dreams of living and building a career in New York City, and owning her own business. She achieved her first goal and had a successful career in the Garment District of New York City. While working in New York, she also achieved her second goal of owning a business by opening an Asian grocery store. This helped pave the road for her and her siblings’ Filipino restaurant - Fiesta Bistro, in Cherry Hill.
Upon moving to the U.S., Dorie lived in New York City and Union City, before settling in South Plainfield in 1987 with her sons, Adrian Berberabe and Geoffrey Claro. Later on, the family grew with the addition of her wife, Emilyn Galope.
A longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Czestochowa in South Plainfield, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, dancing, playing mahjong, and taking trips to the casino.
Predeceased by her father Pedro, mother Ligia, and brothers Pacquito and Ike, Dorie is survived by her wife, Emilyn Galope; sons, Geoffrey (Maricel) Claro and Adrian (Merian) Berberabe; siblings Marie (Resty), Jun (Consor), Linda (Boy), Babee (Fred), and Bebet (Liza); sister-in-law Lynette (Pacquito); grandchildren Lily Grace, Maddox, Lana, and Alexander, along with a host of extended relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 4 pm to 8 pm.
A Mass and Catholic burial will be held at Our Lady of Czestochowa, 809 Hamilton Blvd, South Plainfield, NJ, on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 10 am. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home beginning at 9 am.
Burial will follow at Jesus Bread of Life Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum, 3055 Fostertown Rd, Mt Laurel, NJ.
