John P. Slusser was born March 24, 1920 in Dupont, PA, to the late John & Josephine (Kasprak) Slusarczyk, and passed away peacefully June 6, 2018 at JFK hospital in Edison, NJ.

He was a graduate of Dupont high school where he played the inaugural season on their first ever varsity football team in 1938.
After high school, he went on to serve as 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army, anti-aircraft artillery division during World War II. Post war, John attended Penn State University, main campus, participating in varsity boxing, where his picture hangs in the athletic hall still today. Academically, he completed his degree in three years.

In 1948, he married his high school sweetheart, Susan (Sasala) Slusser and relocated to Edison, NJ. He was well known in the community as a business agent for Prudential Insurance Company and went on later, to become employed by the state of New Jersey, as a hearing officer. He was also active in the community with the Edison American Legion Post 435 and coaching of the Edison Jets football team, fueled by one of his great passions, sports; his other passion being education.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Anthony, William, Albert, Edward and infant Stanley. Also, by his wife of 60 years, Susan Sasala Slusser.
Surviving family members include, one brother, Ignatius Slusarczyk of Mountain Top PA; two daughters, Rita Slusser of Edison, NJ and Karen Blake of Lancaster PA, two sons Kenneth Slusser of Piscataway, NJ and Robert Slusser of Mount Holly Springs, PA; six grandchildren, Daneen Blake, Christopher Blake, Corin (Blake) Stellwagen (& husband Jay Stellwagen); Hayley Slusser, Jonathan Slusser and Kathryn Slusser; five great grandchildren, Natalia Blake, Elena Blake, Jay Stellwagen, Lina Stellwagen and Jack Stellwagen and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held in the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854 on Monday, March 11, 2018 from 5-8 pm and on Tuesday, March 12, 2018 from 9:15 am until 9:45 am. A mass of christian burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist RC Church, 317 1st Street, Dunellen, NJ 08812 at 10:30 am. At the request of the family, cremation will be held privately.
